Canada takes bronze in Commonwealth Championships
TORONTO, ON – The Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships concluded today in South Africa with Canada’s National Team in third place overall. Australia and South Africa placed first and second overall, respectively, in a field of 19 nations competing at the Kings Park Pool in Durban. Unofficial Canadian results at the end of the second day of competition were:
Line Throw
Women: Véronique Comtois and Lori Borgal – fourth, in 16.29.
Men: Jeff Arthurs and Bryan McMillan – sixth in 12.71.
Super Lifesaver (IronGuard)
Women: Jennifer Ellison – fifth in 2:52.31 and Géraldine Lachance-Fortin – sixth in 2:57.19.
Men: Scott Van Doormaal – second in 2:24.91 and Bryan McMillan – fifth in 2:34.43.
100 m Rescue Medley
Women: Géraldine Lachance-Fortin – fourth in 1:32.62.
4 x 50 m Obstacle Relay
Women: Lori Borgal, Véronique Comtois, Jennifer Ellison and Géraldine Lachance-Fortin – third in 2:04.65.
Men: Jeff Arthurs, John Eddolls, Bryan McMillan and Scott Van Doormaal – second in 1:47.76.
The men's and women's performances in the 4 x 50 m Obstacle Relay established new Canadian records. England’s Mathew Penny, throwing to Jeffrey Lutz, set an unofficial new world record of 10.37 in the men's Line Throw event.
The 2003 Canadian Surf Lifesaving Championships (age group, senior and masters) is slated for August 24—27 in Barrie and Wasaga Beach, Ontario.
