Canada stands 9th overall out of 37 teams at conclusion of Day 1 in Berlin

Scott Van Doormaal set a new Canadian record in the morning heats of the 200 m Obstacle Swim with a time of 2:01.16.

In the same event, Chantique Payne finished 5th with a personal best time of 2:14.20, while Laura Kendall finished 14th swimming a personal best of 2:19.00.

Scott Van Doormaal finished 8th and Will Walters finished 10th in the 200 m Obstacle Swim in a personal best time. Scott finished 10th in the 100 m Tow with Fins event with a personal best time.

Canada’s women set a new Canadian record in the 4 x 50 m Obstacle Relay finishing 8th in 1:58.98. The men finished 11th in the same event.

Alex Griffith swam a personal best time of 0:57.25 in the 100 m Manikin Carry with Fins.

At the end of day 1, Canada stood 9th overall out of 37 national teams.

The World Lifesaving Championships (Rescue 2008) are sanctioned by the International Life Saving Federation. Lifesaving sport – the only sport developed on humanitarian principles – is recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. The Lifesaving Society – Canada’s lifeguarding expert – is the governing body for lifesaving sport in Canada.
