Toronto, ON – September 8, 2010 – Almost 70 Canadians are getting ready to travel to Alexandria, Egypt for Rescue 2010 scheduled for October 2–17, 2010. Canada’s 12-member National Lifesaving Team for the 2010 World Lifesaving Championships includes (women): Marie-Eve Chamberland (PQ), Jennifer Ellison (ON), Gail Findlay-Shirras (BC), Chantique Payne (ON), Audrey Prayal-Brown (NS), Brittany Shaw (ON) and; (men) Jordan Duggan (ON), Nelson Giraldo (PQ), Christopher Goulet (NS), Gaétan Normandin (PQ), Scott Van Doormaal (ON) and Will Walters (BC).

National Team staff are Head Coach, Don Burton (ON) and Team Manager, Shanna Reid (ON). They will be accompanied by Lifesaving Society National Sport Commissioner Patricia Kitchen.
Members of Team Nova Scotia participating in the Interclub Championship include: Neil David, Heather Dawe, Christopher Goulet, Chris Karklins, Pat McGrath, Victoria Peron and Audrey Prayal-Brown.

St. Laurent Lifesaving Club members participating in the Masters Championship include: Daniel Bérubé, Doug Bishop, Kristy Fleet, Oliver Gomes, Susan Kelly, Philippe Lemire, Doug Lloyd, Deidre McKenna, Larry McMahon, Jacques Morissette, Robert Reed, Carla St. Germain, Andy Shelp, Betsy Simpson, Garth Sindrey, Lee Kurt Storm, Christine Sutcliffe, Donna Woodman and Tony Zezza. Also competing in the Masters Championship is Jim Wright.

Canadians officiating at the World Championships include: Michelle Amar (ON), Cynthia Cakebread (ON), Paul D’Eon (NS), Sarah Ingleton (ON), Sara Jennex (ON), Barbara Kusyanto (AB), Elise Matthey-Jacques (PQ), Mike Melenchuk (NS), Pat McGrath (NS), Charlene Pugh (ON), Michael Szarka (ON), Perry Smith (ON), Nathalie Vallières (ON), Carmen Wong (ON), and Lorraine Wilson-Saliba (ON).

Canadians participating in the International Life Saving Federation business meetings include: ILS President, Steve Beerman, Lifesaving Society International Relations Commissioner, Joan Duncan, ILS Technical and Rules Committee Chair, Perry Smith, and Chef de mission, Doug Ferguson.

Family, friends and supporters will accompany the Canadian delegation.

Rescue 2010 is hosted by the Egyptian Diving and Lifesaving Federation on behalf of the International Life Saving Federation. To date, over 3,700 participants are registered for Rescue 2010 which includes:
• 5 World Lifesaving Championships: National Teams, Interclub Open, Masters, Surfboat, and IRB
• ILS Meetings: Board of Directors Commissions, Committees
• ILS Centennial Gala Dinner
• National Beach/Surf Lifesaving Championships for youngsters

The International Life Saving Federation is the world authority in the global effort to prevent drowning.
