Call for applications -- 2011-12 Chef de Mission
The Lifesaving Society invites applications from qualified individuals to act as the volunteer Chef de Mission for the following events:
- Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships - Durban, South Africa, Sept. 23 – Oct. 3, 2011
- Rescue 2012 and ILS General Assembly, Adelaide, Australia, Nov. 3-18, 2012
The Chef de Mission is responsible for carrying out the functions identified in the attached Chef de Mission Terms of Reference, including but not limited to:
- Managing the Mission Pre/During/Post event
- Stewarding the Mission critical path and budget
- Coordinating the communication, support and information flow
- Liaison among the Mission Staff, Canadian Delegation at home and at event
Applicants must be:
- Canadian citizens or landed immigrants
- Members in good standing of the Lifesaving Society
- Available to travel between the dates indicated
- Experienced with international lifesaving and connected to the international community
- Self funded and have the resources to facilitate the mission process
- Administratively supported to meet responsibilities as indicated
- Excellent communicators, mentors and organizers
- Strong oral and written English skills, French an asset
- Enthusiastic, energetic, positive, and able to operate independently in a team environment
As there are often significant learnings involved from one event to the next, preference may be given to individuals applying for the role for both the 2011 Commonwealth Championships and Rescue 2012.
In keeping with the International Commission’s desire to expand the pool of individuals with the skills and experience necessary to assume the role of Chef de Mission, applications will also be accepted from individuals interested in serving in an Assistant Chef role. Assistant Chef’s may or may not be appointed
