Both the Canadian national and development teams placed fourth at the 2011 RLSS Commonwealth championships that ended Oct. 1, 2011, in Durban, South Africa.

Australia, South Africa and England took the first, second and third place overall in the national teams' competition. In the development teams' arena, Australia also took first, with South Africa and England swapping second and third. Congratulations to the members of those national and development teams for their performances.

The Canadian teams represented their nation well at these championships. At least six Canadian records were broken during these championships, subject to final records verification. Two of the times set in the championships may be record-breakers as well, pending verification of times set in those events by the Canadian National Team at Rescue 2010 that was held in Alexandria, Egypt, last October. The teams also broke or tied three Commonwealth records.

The teams also won 14 medals between the competition's two divisions -- eight bronze medals, two silvers and three golds.

Complete results -- though Saturday's final results have yet to be posted online -- are available on the RLSS Commonwealth website.

Canada's most recent previous showing, at the 2009 RLSS Commonwealth Championships in Edmonton, Alta., was a second-place finish for the national team and a first-place for the development team.

The next outing for the National Team will be Rescue 2012, scheduled for November 2012 in Adelaide, Australia.
