Rescue 2012 - Canadian teams selection process
World Lifesaving Championships are intended for bona fide lifesavers who have demonstrated a commitment to lifesaving – athletes who are lifesavers first, competitors second.
Selection criteria are aimed at selecting the team that will provide the best overall outcome for the National Team. Meeting a criterion does not grant an automatic selection to the team as a given athlete’s contribution to the team will need to be assessed against what other athletes meeting one or more of the criteria can bring to the team.
The 2012 World Lifesaving Championships are the qualifying event for the 2013 World Games to be held in Cali, Columbia. As such, the National Team’s primary objective will be to secure selection for this major international event.
National team athletes representing Canada at the 2012 World Lifesaving Championships shall be selected based on their performance at the designated competitions identified in the selection-criteria documents. In order to be selected for this event, an athlete must at least meet the eligibility criteria.
Athletes who wish to be selected to the touring National Team must either be active members of the National or Development Team roster, or submit a formal expression of interest to the High Performance Manager or a member of the selection committee outlining prior to the selection of the National Team.
